What is Engaged Living?

It is connecting, touching each other’s lives, learning and teaching, giving and growing, sharing interests and passions, exchanging ideas and feelings, and contributing to our communities. It is living with joy, strength, vibrancy and creativity. It is the lifestyle our residents have pursued all their lives, and which they continue to pursue.

Examples of Engaged Living abound in our three continuing care retirement communities, where the residents enthusiastically participate in activities that contribute to their personal growth and to the strength of their communities. You can see it in the gardens and beehives at Westminster at Lake Ridge, projects that were initiated and are maintained by residents, and in the volunteer-run Encore Shop that was founded by a resident to raise funds for improvements that benefit everyone in the community. Engaged Living is demonstrated by the talented artists at Ingleside at Rock Creek, whose mosaics and paintings adorn the community’s walls, and by the dedicated volunteers who take part in running the community through the resident board and committees. At Ingleside at King Farm, volunteering is a way of life; members initiate many programs, classes and groups, such as the Parkinson’s support group founded by a member, and also reach out to support organizations in the surrounding areas by giving their time and talents to libraries, food pantries and other agencies that work to improve people’s lives.

Since 1906, Ingleside has built upon long-standing traditions and common values that center on giving, service, and supporting the dignity and quality of life of every resident. We have grown into a family that continues to evolve, dedicated to exploring new pathways to best meet the needs of the remarkable people we serve and changing the way senior services are delivered. United under the Ingleside parent company, our family consists of our three senior living communities; Ingleside at Home, a home- and community-based service provider; and the Westminster Ingleside Foundation, which supports our communities through what we call Engaged Giving—all separate and distinct, but related.

To capture our vision of an even stronger future, we asked all of our Ingleside family members to help us identify what makes our communities so special. Their responses led us to create our new brand, two words that perfectly reflect the spirit and energy of Ingleside: Engaged Living.

So much is embraced in those two words. They applaud the accomplishments of our active, vital and committed residents. They convey our dedication to accountability, respect, innovation, stewardship and excellence in providing the highest quality of services that enable our residents to enjoy independent, fulfilled and happy lives. They show who we truly are.

The concept of Engaged Living prompted us to create a fresh, modern set of visual elements to identify each of our three communities, our Foundation and our affiliate organizations. It also led us to simplify the name of our umbrella organization, formerly known as Westminster Ingleside Service Corporation, to just Ingleside.

Together, these new elements convey our strength, compassion and commitment, and they point the way toward an exciting future. Community expansion plans are under way at Ingleside at Rock Creek and Ingleside at King Farm that will expand amenities and add new residences. We are also planning for the future needs of Westminster at Lake Ridge, which is the base for a new service that provides care to residents who wish to remain in their homes—Ingleside at Home.

We believe that all of us are strengthened by making this exciting journey together. To all of you who helped us create this new brand, to everyone who lives and works within our family, and to those who will be joining our communities in the future, we offer our gratitude, respect and thanks.

“Engaged Living—you know it’s not just a catch phrase for all of us here at Ingleside,” says Ingleside President and CEO Lynn O’Connor. “It’s our pledge to our residents. It’s a way of life. It’s what our residents bring to us, and it’s what we commit to return to them each day.”
